Unity Church of Peace believes that God is equally present in all people, and welcomes and celebrates diversity.
The church is a part of the worldwide Unity Movement, originating in 1889 in Kansas City, MO. The church was founded in 1936 by Reverend Julia A. McKee, with the support of her husband, Brown McKee, and a number of dedicated Unity members. The church had several meeting places in South St. Louis County until 1954, when the congregation was able to purchase the property at 3701 Bayless Ave., ½ mile east of I-55, the church's current location.
Throughout the years, Unity Church of Peace has had many pastors following Rev. McKee, including Rev. Mauritz Earhard, Rev. Paul Funk, Revs. Tom and Edie Skalitzky, Rev. Joyce Mech, Rev. Diane Sickler, and the current pastor since 2005, Rev. Sallie J. Fox.
The church's music program is led by Music Director Michele VanHoose, who has been with Unity since 2007.
“We strive to embrace all life, knowing that God is present in every situation, working for good,” said Rev. Fox. “We are committed to providing inspiration, education and support to children and adults, in a safe and loving environment. As we apply the Unity principles of Practical Christianity to our daily lives, we are divinely guided to our highest good. We experience healing, personal empowerment and spiritual transformation as we become aware of God's abundant Kingdom,”
She added, “We reach out and lovingly share these gifts to bless and heal our world.”
Unity is best known by its international 24-hour prayer ministry, “Silent Unity”, begun in 1907 and headquartered in Lee's Summit, MO. Its publication of the widely circulated daily devotional Daily Word, started in 1924, and is now available online, also.
Worship services in the 160-seat sanctuary are Sundays at 10:30 a.m., with “Silent Unity” prayer services on Thursdays at 11 a.m.
Everyone is welcome at Unity Church of Peace, 3701 Bayless Ave., St. Louis, 63125. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. For more complete information and a sample of Rev.
